This is a very personal Ditto music video interpretation.
These are my thoughts, so please refer to them when watching the Ditto music video.
Intro
A woman appears in a room where the traces of time are felt.
This girl’s name is Ban Hee-soo – in Korean, it sounds similar to the name of the NewJeans fan club, Bunnies. – was played by actor Park Ji-hoo.
She takes out a videotape from the corner of her room and plays it.
There is a video about five of her close school friends and a male student (actor Choi Hyun-Wook) who had a crush on her.
Hypothesize
It will be easier to understand if you substitute NewJeans for singers and Ban Hee-soo for Bunnies/fandom.
Friends
Ban Hee-soo and NewJeans are close friends who hang out together, but when NewJeans dances, Ban Hee-soo does not dance with them.
Filming
Ban Hee-soo enjoys the moment as she is immersed in filming NewJeans with a camera, like a fan taking a fan cam.
Rainy Day
Even when New Jeans didn’t bring an umbrella (that is, even when NewJeans faced an ordeal), Ban Hee-soo, a fan of New Jeans, met the rain together.
Cast
When fans are having a hard time, NewJeans can be their strength. (The cast symbolizes the ordeal of individual fans.)
Leg
I think Minji’s removal of the girl’s legs expresses her wish that fans will not leave New Jeans.
Outliner
Ban Hee-soo is more interested in idol groups than real-life friends, so her friends treat her as an outlier.
Real men
She, too, sometimes shows more interest in real men than in her favorite idol group.
Broken camera
In the end, Ban Hee-soo breaks the camera that was filming NewJeans and decides to forget about NewJeans.
Hard days
Ban Hee-soo has a hard day when she forgets about NewJeans.
Phone call
Minji keeps calling, but she doesn’t answer.
(Minji erased Ban Hee-su’s legs from the picture, Minji made the phone call, and Minji participated in writing the lyrics for Ditto. This fan song seems to be a fan song for Minji as well.)
Reality
Ban Hee-soo eventually chooses reality rather than an idol group.
Deer
The meaning of the deer is not specific, after all, it seems to mean a mirage or imagination.
Ban Hee-soo still likes NewJeans, however, in reality, it must mean that she can’t always be with NewJeans.
Growth
There must have been many fun and happy days while watching NewJeans, on the other hand, there must have been many difficult moments in people’s eyes.
She must have had many trials of her own, and she would have had to overcome them.
Her deer leaves and she chooses reality.
Grown-up
Ban Hee-soo chose reality instead of an idol group and became an adult safely.
Memories
Even though she is an adult, she has her memories indeed.
NewJeans to see after becoming an adult
Unlike new jeans at the time, which were visible only to her and invisible to others, obviously, the video she filmed contains the beautiful appearance of that time as it is.
This proves that her NewJeans days were not in vain.
Reminisce
As the grown-up girl recalls her memories, the NewJeans of those days welcome fans and the music video ends.
My thought
At first glance, the music video looks very profound and depressing, but I just expressed it subtly, and when I think of it as a fan song, moreover, it’s a touching and warm music video.
A message from New Jeans to Bernies. It would be best to interpret this to this extent.
